MOUNT PLEASANT — The Central Michigan soccer program was honored by the Michigan House and Senate last Thursday for their accomplishments during the 2010 campaign.
"It is a great honor to be recognized by the leaders of our state," head coach Neil Stafford said. "These young women excel both in the classroom and on the field and it is a testament to their character to be recognized in such a manner."
The Chippewas met with senators and state representatives, including Sen. Judy K. Emmons of Sheridan, who represents the central Michigan area and District 32 Rep. Andrea LaFontaine, a 23-year old CMU graduate who is the state's youngest representative.
The Chippewas earned their second-straight Mid-American Conference regular season and tournament championship in 2010, going 16-5-1, while earning a berth in the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season.
The Maroon and Gold also earned their sixth straight National Soccer Coaches Association of American Academic National Championship, posting a grade-point average of 3.76 during the 2009-10 academic year.
