Hatters Claim Walk-off Win Against Chippewas, 9-8

DeLAND, Fla. -- Stetson's Ryan Lashley delivered a bases-loaded RBI single with one down in the ninth inning for a 9-8 victory over Central Michigan to conclude the Bright House Invitational at Melching Field on Sunday.
The Chippewas (4-7) rallied in the eighth on a two-out, two-run single by junior Nate Theunissen , but the Hatters (9-1) took advantage of an error and a walk leading off the ninth that led to the winning hit.
CMU jumped out to a 4-0 lead with an RBI doubles in each of the first two innings by Theunissen and senior Robbie Harman , followed by a sacrifice fly by junior William Arnold and an RBI single by junior Sam Russell in the third.
SU clawed back into the game though on a three-run blast off the bat of Ben Carhart to cut into the Central Michigan lead, 4-3.
The teams traded runs in the sixth and the Maroon and Gold added another in the seventh on an RBI single by junior Tyler Hall for a 6-4 edge, but the Hatters plated four runs in the seventh to take their first lead of the game at 8-6 .
In the eighth, CMU loaded the bases on a pair of walks sandwiched around a double by senior Matt Faiman and Theunissen came through once again on an 0-2 pitch, slashing a single into left center to plate the tying runs.
Junior Harvey Martin (0-2) suffered the loss for CMU, giving up an unearned run on two hits and two walks over 2 1/3 innings of relief. Robbie Powell (2-0) picked up the win for SU, tossing a scoreless 1 2/3 innings.
Theunissen, Hall and Faiman each had two hits for the Chippewas. Mark Jones finished with three hits for the Hatters.
The two teams take the field in a rematch on Tuesday as Central Michigan's spring break trip continues.
