AKRON, Ohio -- Senior Jake Sabol tossed his second complete-game shutout in as many starts as Central Michigan finished off a sweep of Akron, 10-0, at Lee R. Jackson Field in Mid-American Conference action on Sunday.
The senior right-hander, who blanked Ohio in the series finale last weekend for his first career shutout, extended his scoreless innings streak to 18, helping the Chippewas (16-17, 5-4 MAC) claim their seventh win in eight tries, while handing the Zips (6-23, 0-9 MAC) their ninth-consecutive conference loss.
Tyler Hall had a huge day at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a walk, two doubles, three RBI and two runs scored. CMU jumped on UA early, plating six in the second and three more in the third. Hall's two-run double in the second and RBI single in the third fueled the rallies.
Sabol (3-2) never allowed a runner to reach third base and allowed just three as far as second, one on an error and another on a passed ball. He gave up just four hits and a walk while striking out four. Myles McVeigh (0-5) took the loss, giving up six runs (two earned) on three hits and four walks in 1 2/3 innings.
CMU has won five of its last six league games, all on the road. Central Michigan is now off until Friday, when it opens a three-game home series against Kent State.
