Field Hockey Improves Through Spring Schedule

MOUNT PLEASANT — The Central Michigan field hockey team wrapped up its spring schedule with two losses versus Big Ten opponents, Michigan and Michigan State.
Despite the losses, assistant coach Earl Marais believes the team continued to make strides throughout the spring season.
"We played two games and we faired pretty well," Marais said. "We ended our spring schedule on a high note. We lost both games, 4-0 and 2-0, but we played very, very well versus Michigan State.
"The positive aspects of our spring schedule were very good. Ohio State, Michigan and Michigan State were all great opponents. We beat MSU once and played Michigan very hard."
After finishing the 2010 campaign with a 6-14 record, the Chippewas look to move up the rankings in the Mid-American Conference in the fall with an improved offense, something Marais believes the team took steps in focusing on this spring.
"We are adapting and becoming more of an offensive team, scoring goals when we must score goals," Marais said. "Individually the girls improved. The attitudes are positive from our upperclassmen and our 10 incoming freshmen are now maturing and becoming better field hockey players. They are much more relaxed and confident because they were able to play more games."
