The Chippewa Marching Band relies on so many people for its continued excellence and success – coaches, players, parents, alumni, students and friends – we are proud to be part of the CMU community and to carry the Chippewa name. In recent years, generous donor support has given our trumpet and trombone sections the benefit of professional quality instruments. Also, Championship Fund donations help to ensure that we have the best instructional materials and equipment available! | Student RecognitionFunding would ensure complete sponsorship of our annual awards banquet, which is our single opportunity to give recognition to our student leaders and scholarship winners for all their hard work each year. Annual Cost: $6,000 Hearing ProtectionImagine working on a job site with jackhammers and concrete cutters working full tilt. Amazingly, the noise levels there would not quite come up to the volume of sound our students experience when playing together in close quarters! Recent innovations have solved that problem and in 2013 we were able to use Championship Fund dollars to fit the entire band with high fidelity, equal attenuation ear plugs (EAP). The results were fantastic. Not only are our kids protected from chronic hearing loss, they can actually hear one another better and play better in tune when we're in the stands! Annual Cost: $1,800 TrainersThe CMU Athletic Training program, in cooperation with the College of Communication and Fine Arts and the College of Medicine, has been examining the possibility of assigning trained personnel and interns to see to our physical training and injury prevention needs. Many NCAA bands have found that such efforts dramatically reduce the incidence of injury that can come from the high-impact aerobic activity that goes into our energetic and entertaining shows! Annual Cost: $5,000 to $15,000 Professional DevelopmentAnnual meetings of the National Collegiate Marching and Athletic Band Directors and other professional conferences provide our staff the opportunity to stay abreast of current issues and trends and to participate with colleagues from across the NCAA in developing programs that ensure the vitality of our program and the health and safety of our students.
