MOUNT PLEASANT - Seven Central Michigan football players have earned preseason All-Mid-American Conference recognition from Phil Steele's College Football Preview.
Junior safety Jahleel Addae represented CMU on Phil Steele's All-MAC first team. Addae was an All-MAC third team honoree in 2010 after making a career-high 80 tackles. He is the Chippewas' leading returning tackler in 2011.
Junior receiver Cody Wilson landed on Phil Steele's second team. Wilson had one of the top individual receiving seasons in school history in 2011, catching 83 passes for 1,137 yards and five touchdowns. His receptions and receiving yards totals rank fifth and third, respectively, in a single season in school history. Wilson, who also was a fourth-team choice as a punt returner by Phil Steele, was an All-MAC second team selection in 2010 and was named the team's most valuable player.
Five other Chippewas were named to Phil Steele's All-MAC fourth team: junior quarterback Ryan Radcliff, senior running back Paris Cotton, junior offensive lineman Jake Olson, junior offensive lineman Eric Fisher and senior linebacker Armond Staten.
Radcliff enters his second season as the Chippewas' starter under center. He completed 282-of-466 passes for 3,358 yards and 17 touchdowns in 2010. He ranked 12th nationally in passing yards (179.8 ypg) and completions (23.5 per game), 15th in total passing yards (3,358) and 25th in total offense (271.6 ypg).
Cotton ran for a career-high 651 yards and six touchdowns in 2010. He ran for 100 or more yards three times, including 209 yards and three touchdowns in a 52-14 win at Eastern Michigan. Cotton also caught 25 passes out of the backfield last season.
Olson returns to the Chippewas' offensive front in 2011 after missing most of 2010 with an injury. He was an honorable mention freshman All-America selection by collegefootballnews.com in 2009.
Fisher started nine games in 2010: four at right tackle, two at right guard and three at left tackle. He is a two-year letterman who also started two games at left tackle as a true freshman in 2009.
Staten enters his second season as a starter at linebacker after making a career-high 78 tackles in 2010. He also tied for second nationally with five forced fumbles last season. Staten tallied 11 tackles, a sack and three forced fumbles in CMU's 26-22 win over Western Michigan last year.
CMU opens the 2011 season at home Thursday, Sept. 1 against South Carolina State.
