Ann Arbor, Mich. — After striking early with a goal in the first three minutes of play, Central Michigan's offense sputtered and fell to Bucknell, 2-1, in overtime Saturday morning in Ann Arbor.
Despite making five saves throughout the match, one shy of her season high set in Friday's loss to Michigan, junior goalkeeper Anastasia Netto and the CMU defense could not prevent a shot that was tipped in by Bucknell's Rachel Misko at the 72' mark, just over two minutes into overtime, to end the match.
The Chippewas (2-2), who have dropped two games in a row, allowed 13 shots by the Bison (1-3), seven of which were on goal, while themselves mustering only four shots on goal on seven total shots.
Freshman forward Cayleigh Immelmann wasted no time getting the Chippewas on the board, scoring her third goal of the season off a penalty corner, assisted by senior back Brooke Sihota and senior midfielder Paulina Lee, just three minutes into the game.
Central Michigan maintained a 1-0 lead into the beginning of the second half, until Bucknell earned a penalty corner and scored a goal off a rebound to tie the game, 1-1, seven minutes into the second half. Bucknell earned seven corners throughout the match while CMU was awarded only four.
Sihota was assessed a yellow card just moments later and was forced to serve a 15 minute temporary suspension, leaving the Chippewas a player short. CMU survived without allowing a goal.
Immelmann and Lee each had two shots for the Chippewas.
The field hockey team travels to Iowa to take on the 15th-ranked Hawkeyes next Saturday before returning to Mount Pleasant September 21 to host the Michigan State Spartans at 4 p.m.
