Four Chippewas Lead Academic All-MAC Squad

MOUNT PLEASANT - Four Central Michigan field hockey student-athletes were named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference squad Friday, making up the largest contingent from any program in the MAC.
The Chippewas' four selections are the most since 2001 when six student-athletes garnered the award.
Senior Paulina Lee, juniors Erin Dye and Anastasia Netto and sophomore Simone Lazar each earned Academic All-MAC honors for the first time in their careers, as the Chippewas' four selections were one more than 2011 MAC Champion Ohio.
Lee (Pittsford, N.Y./Mendon) was an All-MAC Second Team selection in 2011, leading the Chippewas and ranking fourth in the MAC with 10 assists. A team co-captain, Lee sports a 3.85 grade point average as a marketing major and was awarded CMU's prestigious Bill Boyden Award last fall.
Dye (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) also claimed second-team All-MAC honors and was a MAC All-Tournament Team selection. She finished second on the team with 10 goals and 27 points and ranked fourth in the MAC with 68 shots, including 43 on goal. A marketing major, Dye boasts a 3.91 GPA.
Netto (Trinidad & Tobago/St. Joseph's Convent), CMU's Mary Bottaro Player of the Year, finished the season ranked second in the MAC in goals-against average (1.83), save percentage (.718) and shutouts (2), to earn second team All-MAC honors. She posts a 3.54 GPA as an accounting major.
Lazar (Etobicoke, Ont./Michael Power/St. Josheph's) was one of two Chippewas named to the All-MAC First Team earlier this fall and earns Academic All-MAC honors in her first eligible year. A staple of CMU's midfield, Lazar finished the season with two goals and three assists while helping the Maroon and Gold post the second-best defense in the league. The sophomore has a 3.84 GPA and has yet to declare a major.
Junior Emily Girasole (Orchard Park, N.Y/Orchard Park/3.71 GPA) and sophomores Bailey McKeon (Fleetwood, Pa./Oley Valley/3.69 GPA), Julianna Makrinos (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township/3.47 GPA) and Skylar VanNatta (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead/3.83 GPA) each earned Academic All-MAC honorable mention.
