Watch: First day of practice with head coach Steve Jaksa
MOUNT PLEASANT - Coming off back-to-back Mid-American Conference West Division titles, the Central Michigan baseball program held its first full team practice Wednesday afternoon.
Head Coach Steve Jaksa and the Chippewas hit the football turf in Kelly/Shorts Stadium for a series of defensive drills, before moving inside to the Indoor Athletic Complex turf bay for situational drills.
"Its great to have all the guys together," Jaksa said. "You can feel the excitement. We were able to go outside again today, so you couldn't ask for anything better than that. I felt really good about what we got accomplished and really liked how the guys worked together today."
The Chippewas will continue to practice over the next 15 days as they prepare for their season-opening four-game series at 2011 NCAA Regional qualifier Troy on Friday, Feb. 17.
CMU will spend the first month of the season on the road, including series versus the Trojans, Stetson, McNeese State, Southeastern Louisiana and Hawaii. The Maroon and Gold will open their 2012 home schedule on Tuesday, March 13 versus Madonna.
Be sure to check back to CMUChippewas.com next Wednesday, February 8, for part one of a three-part preview on the 2012 Maroon and Gold squad.
