Rainbows? Arakawa Shuts Down Chippewas, 5-1

MONOA, Hawaii - Central Michigan was unable to find an answer for Hawaii starting pitcher Jarrett Arakawa Friday night, dropping game two of the series, 5-1.
Arakawa pitched a complete game nine innings, giving up just one run on six hits and a walk while striking out eight Chippewas (5-8).
Senior Zach Cooper started opposite of Arakawa on the mound for the Maroon and Gold, suffering his second loss of the season after lasting just five innings and giving up five runs - four earned - on six hits and four walks. Cooper struck out four Rainbows (10-5) in the contest.
The Rainbows jumped ahead in the bottom of the second with thee runs on three hits and two CMU errors, before adding single runs in the fourth and fifth innings for a 5-0 lead.
The Chippewas attempted to spark a two-out rally in the top of the fifth after junior Tom Lally hit an infield single and redshirt freshman Nick Regnier followed with a double down the right field line, but junior Jordan Dean stranded both runners by flying out to right field.
CMU finally got on the board in the top of the eighth to pull within four, 5-1, as Lally led off the inning with a triple to right center and Dean had a RBI ground out, but it was all the Chippewas would be able to get across against Arakawa.
Lally finished the game 2-for-3 with the run scored to lead the Chippewas, while Regnier, Dean and seniors Sam Russell and William Arnold each went 1-for-4.
The Chippewas and Rainbows conclude their series as Les Murakami Stadium this evening with a doubleheader starting at 6:35 p.m. EST. A seven-inning contest will be played to start the twin-bill, while the series finale will be a complete nine-inning game. Lefties Ryan Longstreth and Rick Dodridge will start on the mound for the Chippewas in the doubleheader.
