					Collmenter's Record Within Reach Senior ace Zach Cooper has a chance to become Central Michigan's all-time leader in strikeouts, passing 2007 MAC Pitcher of the Year and current Arizona Diamondbacks starter Josh Collmenter's record of 288. Cooper tied a career high with 11 strikeouts February 24 at No. 23 Stetson and fanned 10 last Friday versus Buffalo, moving into a tie for 10th place all-time with 213 strikeouts. Collmenter's record of 288 could be eclipsed if Cooper averaged just over 7.5 strikeouts per game over his projected 10 remaining regular-season starts. Hall's Return After missing the first 20 games of the season with a lower body injury, senior Tyler Hall returned to the lineup last week versus Northwood and Buffalo. Since his return, Hall has batted .318 (7-for-22) with seven RBI and a .455 slugging percentage. He hit a key three-run home run in last Sunday's comeback victory over the Bulls and is riding a nine-game hitting streak dating back to last season. Multi-Hit Machine Jordan Dean continues to rip the cover off the ball at the plate in his junior season, leading the Chippewas in average (.385), runs scored (29), hits (42), triples (2), home runs (4), total bases (63), slugging percentage (.578) and on-base percentage (.446). He has recorded a hit in all but four games this season and has 15 multi-hit games, including two four-hit performances. Climbing the Record Books Senior first baseman Nate Theunissen has a chance to put himself in quality company in the CMU record books this weekend. Theunissen currently ranks third all-time in CMU history with 45 doubles, just one shy of tying CMU greats Doug Fisher at Mike Gates. The senior also ranks fifth all-time in runs batted in (154), seventh in extra-base hits (70), ninth in at-bats (666), eighth in total bases (333) and tenth in hits (215). He needs just three more runs during his senior campaign to move into yet another top 10 all-time. Walk-Off Fashion The Chippewas capped off their Mid-American Conference opening series versus Buffalo last Sunday in walk-off fashion, completing an eight-run comeback with four runs in the bottom of the ninth. After three runs cross the plate to tie the game, 13-13, senior Nate Theunissen singled to left center to score senior William Arnold to give the Chippewas the win and the series. More on MAC Opener The Chippewas batted .345 in their opening weekend of Mid-American Conference play, scoring 31 runs on 40 hits. Three different Chippewas batted .460 or better with junior Jordan Dean leading the way with a .538 average. Cooper and Russell Sweep Weekly Awards Seniors Zach Cooper and Sam Russell swept the Mid-American Conference West Division awards last week, being named Pitcher and Player of the Week for the first times this season. Russell's Player of the Week award was the second-straight by a Chippewa as he joined last week's winner, Jordan Dean. Chippewas Tabbed to Win Third-Straight MAC West Title Central Michigan was picked to win its third-straight Mid-American Conference West Division title by the league's head coaches. CMU received 54 points to edge Toledo's 45 and Eastern Michigan's 43. The Maroon and Gold also received one vote to win the 2012 MAC Tournament, which will be played at Pro-Freight Stadium in Avon, Ohio for the first time. Former Coach Waldo Sauter Remembered The Chippewas will wear a patch with the initials "WS" the remainder of the season in commemoration of former CMU baseball head coach Waldo Sauter, who passed away on February 22. Sauter was the first coach in CMU history to earn 200 wins in any sports and left as the program's all-time leader in wins with 210 in 1970. He was inducted into the CMU Athletics Marcy Weston Hall of Fame in 1994 and selected the Maroon and Gold's "Fan of the Year" in 2010. One of the Nation's All-Time Winningest Programs According to the NCAA's annual baseball record book, the Central Michigan baseball program ranks 26th on the list of all-time winningest programs with a minimum of 25 years in Division I. The Chippewas entered the season 1,956-1,175-17 for a clip of .624, ranking above programs such as the back-to-back National Champs South Carolina and the current top team in the country, No. 1 Florida. Big Ten Network to Air Second ‘Clash at Comerica' The Big Ten Network announced its 2012 baseball television schedule on February 16, one that features the second ‘Clash at Comerica' game between Central Michigan and Michigan State. The game will be moved to 7 p.m. to accommodate the T.V. schedule after originally being slated for 6:35 p.m.
