Chippewas Having Strong Spring Season

MOUNT PLEASANT - The Central Michigan field hockey has had a strong showing thus far in its 2012 spring season, going 2-0-2 with both wins coming against Big Ten opponents.
The Chippewas have erased first-half deficits in three of their four contests, with wins coming against Michigan State, 2-1, and Ohio State, 4-1.
CMU trailed the Spartans, 1-0, at halftime of their first game of the spring, but got second-half goals from freshman Cayleigh Immelmann and sophomore Ellen Riley. Sophomore Bailey McKeon assisted on Riley's game-winning goal as the Chippewas pulled off the win, 2-1.
In the Maroon and Gold's second game of the spring, McKeon scored the team's lone goal on an assist from Immelmann to give CMU the lead over Miami at the end of the first half, 1-0. The Redhawks were able to tie the game in the second half however and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
Despite trailing Ohio State, 1-0, at halftime of game three of the spring, the Chippewas scored four second-half goals en route to their second victory of the exhibition season, 4-1. Immelmann scored her second goal of the spring and assisted on a goal by McKeon, while freshman Mary Alice Moore and sophomore Erica Garwood each tallied a goal.
The reigning Mid-American Conference regular season and tournament champions Kent State squared off versus CMU in game four, with the teams playing to a 1-1 tie. CMU found itself down, 1-0, at the end of the first half, but Garwood's second goal of the spring on an assist from McKeon evened the game in the second half.
Immelmann and Bailey lead the offense through the spring, each tallying two goals and two assists for six points. Junior goalkeeper Anastasia Netto has continued to build off her All-MAC second team honors in the fall, making 11 saves in the Chippewas' win over Michigan State for her best outing.
