MOUNT PLEASANT - Junior Dietrich Enns was named Mid-American Conference West Pitcher of the Week and senior Tyler Hall grabbed Player of the Week honors for the first time this season, the league office announced Monday.
The Pitcher of the Week award is the second-straight for Enns after he extended his consecutive scoreless innings pitched streak to 17.1 by pitching eight scoreless Sunday versus Ball State. The lefty struck out a season-high eight batters and limited the Cardinals to just five hits and a walk to improve his record to 4-2 on the season and 2-0 as a starter.
Hall batted .571 (12-for-21) with nine runs scored, two doubles, a triple and a three-run home run during the Chippewas' five games versus Seattle and Ball State last week, recording at least two hits in all five contests. He finished the week with eight RBI and a slugging percentage of .905, all while raising his season batting average 42 points from .304 to .346.
The Chippewas have won 10-straight games, including their last eight MAC contests, and sit just one-game behind MAC West leader Toledo. They will play their final three conference games of the regular season this week at Theunissen Stadium when they host rival Western Michigan starting Thursday afternoon.
