MOUNT PLEASANT — Head coach Cristy Freese has announced the addition of Dutch national Anne Middeldorp to the roster for the 2012 season.
Middeldorp, a defensive midfielder from Den Haag who has played for the Dutch club Haagsche Delftsche Mix since 2003, will bring international experience, expansive knowledge of the game and sharp technical skills to an already-strong Chippewas roster, according to Freese.
“We are excited to round out an outstanding incoming freshman class with the addition of Anne Middledorp to our team,” Freese said. “Anne brings a great deal of experience and skill to our team. As always, I think any incoming freshman will take time to get used to playing at this level and with an experienced team we will be able to let Anne and all of our freshmen get used to being part of a new team.
“Eventually, I think Anne can be a premier player in this league like Erin Dye, Simone Lazar and Cayleigh Immelman.”
Middeldorp comes from an extensive field hockey background. Her father played for the Dutch National field hockey team, her parents are both members of HDM, and Middeldorp became a member of HDM three weeks after birth.
After becoming making her HDM playing debut in 2003 at the E level, she has improved each year and worked her way to the A level, and ultimately to the number two squad at the very top level of the club.
She joins Immelman (South Africa), Lazar (Canada) and Anastasia Netto (Trinidad and Tobago) as the fourth international players on the roster.
The Chippewas open the 2012 campaign Saturday, Aug. 25, at Robert Morris at 10:30 a.m.
