Sam Flamont Rejoins Chippewas as Assistant Coach

MOUNT PLEASANT - Former volunteer assistant Sam Flamont has rejoined the Central Michigan baseball program, head coach Steve Jaksa announced Tuesday.
A former All-Mid-American Conference first-team selection at Western Michigan in 2002, Flamont was a volunteer assistant on Jaksa's staff in 2010 and helped the Chippewas to the program's 12th MAC championship.
Flamont's responsibilities will include working with infielders defensively and with hitters, while also coordinating all CMU baseball camps and clinics.
"We're very excited to welcome coach Flamont back to the CMU baseball program," Jaksa said. "It's always great when a guy who was here before wants to come back. Sam went and coached in a couple other places, but when the opportunity to come back presented itself he wanted to come back. His knowledge of the game is top-notch and he'll be a great addition to our program."
Following his time as an assistant at CMU, Flamont accepted an assistant coaching position at Davenport University for the 2011 season, where he served as the hitting coach and worked with infielders and outfielders on defensive alignment.
"Working with this program in 2010 was a huge highlight for me and I felt like I left prematurely the first time," Flamont said. "When the opportunity to come back and work with coach Jaksa, coach Haring and coach Opalewski, I knew it was something I couldn't turn down. I have all the confidence in the world in working with this staff and I'm looking forward to meeting all the players because I know they bring in the right kind of student-athletes."
After being named All-MAC and All-Midwest Region in 2002, Flamont signed with the Detroit Tigers before becoming a All-Star second baseman with Windy City of the Frontier League.
Flamont replaces former assistant coach Derek Simmons, who accepted a position with Kennesaw State University.
