Having also previously earned the highest mark among public universities for the past two years, this is the third consecutive year ranking among the nation's top five overall academic programs.
"I am very proud of our entire team because to be the number one academic team in Division I field hockey takes everyone doing their absolute best. Our team is very focused and driven to succeed both in the classroom and on the field. Here at CMU our goal is to be a champion in everything we do," said Freese.
The NFHCA Division I National Academic Team Award list recognizes programs that achieved a team GPA of 3.0 or higher during the semester of competition. The Chippewas posted a team GPA of 3.61 to earn a Division I National Academic Team Award for the fourth consecutive season and fifth time in the last six years.
"This is a tremendous honor that we are very proud to have," said Director of Athletics Dave Heeke. "Our field hockey program is one that embodies the Championship Culture we all strive for in the classroom, in competition and in the community."
Added onto the soccer program's string of seven consecutive national academic championships, a Central Michigan program has now earned the highest team GPA in its sport for the past eight years.
