Mount Pleasant, Mich.- Central Michigan field hockey opened its spring season last weekend, playing two games in East Lansing and two at home. The Chippewas came away with a win against Miami (Ohio) on Sunday, March 31, but fell to Ohio State, Indiana and Michigan State.
“A big focus for us this weekend was to see Sadie [Reynolds] in goal,” said Head Coach Cristy Freese.
The weekend started off on Saturday, March 30, with a 3-0 loss to the Buckeyes. In game two, Central Michigan fell to the Hoosiers 1-0.
Bailey Mckeon scored the Chippewas lone goal of the weekend, converting on a penalty corner assisted by Julianna Makrinos and Abby Roth against the RedHawks. Central Michigan went on to defeat Miami (Ohio) 1-0.
The Spartans came in for game two of the day, and squeaked out a 1-0 victory over the Chippewas.
Central Michigan tried several different personnel combinations, including playing Simone Lazar on offense. With a veteran defense the Chippewas are able to fall back on, they are looking for ways to score more this spring said Freese.
Central Michigan will host Mid-American Conference foe Ball State on Saturday, April 6, for a 7-v-7 tournament.
“With the 7-on-7 tournaments, we are looking to focus more on getting quality minutes and having everyone do a bit of everything with a short field,” said Freese.
