CMU Men 4th, Women 8th at Pre National

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Central Michigan men placed fourth and the women were eighth Saturday at the Indiana State Pre National Cross Country Invitational.
CMU's Nate Ghena placed seventh in the men's race, an 8K, in 25 minutes, 6.8 seconds. Luis Vargas of Elon won in 24:20.3.
The CMU men finished with 175 points, finishing ahead of Mid-American Conference foes Miami (Ohio), Toledo and Bowling Green. Indiana placed first with 164. Twenty-eight teams comprised the men's event.
Also for the CMU men, Silas Dekalita placed 20th in 25:31.9, Casey Voisin came in 32nd in 25:52.2; Ben Wynsma was 57th in 26:06.5; Spencer Nousain was 68th in 26:13.8; Monte Scott placed 120th in 26:48.8; and Tanner Pesonen was 127th in 26:57.3.
Abbey Kelto finished seventh in the women's race, a 6K, in 21:47.3 to pace the Chippewas.
Washington State won the women's event with 143 points, 39 ahead of runner-up Southern Illinois. CMU finished with 328. The Chippewas were the second MAC team, behind seventh-place Bowling Green.
Also from the MAC, Kent State was 21st, Ohio was 24th, and Akron was 28th. Thirty-three teams comprised the women's event.
Courtney Frerichs of Missouri-Kansas City won the race in 20:55.5.
Also for CMU, Breanne Lesnar was 12th in 21:58.5; Melinda Palinkas placed 81st in 23:12.16; Hannah Davis was 115th in 23:38.9; Michaela Bundy was 119th in 23:42.9; Esther Bell was 123rd in 24:33.2; and Katie Weiler finished 165th in 24:24.1.
