Chippewas Snag Two All-Time Top-Ten Results at Notre Dame, Women Finish 4th, Men 15th

Carmody grabs 5th all-time, Hoffman grabs 8th. Chippewas set 12 personal bests.
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Central Michigan Cross Country ran its third race of the season at the Joe Piane Invitational hosted by Notre Dame on Friday. The men finished 15th overall, the women fourth.
The men's 8k featured 18 teams and 156 runners in the Blue division; the women's 5k featured 24 teams and 211 runners in the Gold division.
Sophomore Kyah Hoffman led the way for the women, running a 17:25.43, which was good for eighth all-time in Chippewas Cross Country history. Junior Maya Guikema also posted a personal best result with a 17:49.31, good for 23rd all-time.
The women set seven total personal records on the day. Eva Thompson crossed with a 17:57.29, Grace VanderKooi finished with a 18:12.06, Lois Creasey ran a 18:29.03, Emma Netzel and Miranda McNeil rounded out the personal records with a 18:37.19 and 18:40.34, respectively.
The men were led by junior Nate Carmody, who finished with a time of 24:09.7, good for fifth all-time. It was the first time a Chippewa has broken into the top-ten since Adam Rzentkowski set the program record at the Paul Short Run in 2022.
"Today was a great step forward for both teams. We are getting much closer to where we want to be," Head Coach Jenny Swieton said.
Two other Chippewas finished in the program's all-time top 25 with Blake Chipman and Miciah Smith tying at 24:31.9, good for 11th all-time.
Greg Janesak and Evan Owczarek rounded out the Chippewas' top-five, each claiming personal bests. Janesak crossed at 25:11.2, and Owczarek crossed at 26:37.4.
The women had seven runners in the open division; the men had one. Leading the way for the women's open was Olivia East, who crossed with a time of 18:54.70. Mason Lucas was the lone runner in the men's open, crossing with a time of 26:55.81.
