MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Central Michigan goalkeeper Heather Laeufer was named Monday the Mid-American Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
Laeufer, a sophomore from Pickerington, Ohio, posted two shutouts over the weekend as the Chippewas defeated Ohio, 3-0, and Kent State, 1-0.
Against the Bobcats, Laeufer recorded three saves, including a fully laid out diving stop of a penalty kick attempt to protect CMU's one-goal lead in the first half. She also tallied her first career assist on a goal scored by senior Laura Gosse.
Laeufer followed up with another clean sheet against the Golden Flashes, shutting down one of the MAC's top offenses with four saves.
Since taking over the starting goalkeeper duties mid-season, Laeufer has recorded four wins, all in MAC play and all shutouts. Laeufer's goals against average is 0.84.
