OXFORD, Ohio - Kat Zalar and Kelsey Dinges scored goals Sunday as Miami (Ohio) topped Central Michigan, 2-0, in a Mid-American Conference soccer match.
The loss was CMU's fourth straight, and it dropped the Chippewas to 2-9-1 overall, 0-4-0 league. Miami is 9-2, 3-1.
CMU, which lost on Friday, 2-0, at Ball State, will play two MAC road matches next weekend when they go to Bowling Green (2-9-0, 1-3-0) and Eastern Michigan (6-4-1, 2-2-0).
"I thought the competitive spirit of the team was pretty good," CMU coach Peter McGahey said. "I thought we were able to overcome the disappointment of Friday night and come out and put in a good performance."
Zalar scored at the 17-minute, 7-second mark, booting a loose ball past CMU goalkeeper Maddy Bunnell.
The RedHawks outshot the Chippewas, 18-7, and had 11 corner kicks to CMU's two. Six of CMU's shots came in the second half.
"We had two chances in the second half that if we could have capitalized on, would have made it 1-1," McGahey said. "I thought those were the moments in the game where we had to get on the board to bring the game back and we didn't do it."
Dinges scored off a deflection with under six minutes remaining.
Bunnell made nine saves, while her Miami counterpart, Vic Maniaci made two. Senior forward Laura Gosse had four of CMU's seven shots, and sophomore mid Eliza Van de Kerkhove had two.
The Chippewas play at Bowling Green on Friday, Oct. 10, and at Eastern Michigan on Sunday, Oct. 12.
