MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- The Central Michigan women's soccer team will look to end a four-game losing streak, and a scoring drought, this weekend when it hits the road for a pair of Mid-American Conference games.
The Chippewas, who are 2-9-1 overall, 0-4 league, will play at Bowling Green (2-9-0, 1-3-0) on Friday and at Eastern Michigan (6-4-1, 2-2-0) on Sunday.
CMU has scored just one goal in its last five games.
"You have to believe in the team, you have to believe that the next pass, the next goal, the next thing is right around the corner," coach Peter McGahey said. "The confidence that the (coaching) staff and I have, and the entire team and the student-athletes have, makes us always optimistic."
Keeping up the players' dobbers is critical. By all indications, morale is good, it's just a matter of breaking through.
"Our mentality system here has always been 1-0, so we are just focused on Bowling Green at this point -- one game at a time," senior Laura Gosse said.
"We've had some hard losses so far and sometimes that can bring a team down," sophomore Eliza Van de Kerkhove said. "For our team I don't feel like that's the case. Everyone has enough belief in each other and this game of course is really important; it may not be a championship game or the biggest game of your life, but it's the next game for us."
"The key is to get one (win)," McGahey said. "If you get one on Friday, find your result on Friday, the positive momentum gives you something to build on moving forward to Sunday."
