| Mount Pleasant, Mich. – It will be a battle of the Centrals beginning Friday, March 7, when the Central Michigan University baseball team begins its Spring Break trip with a three-game series against Central Florida. The Chippewas are scheduled to play eight games over 10 days in three cities. CMU will take on Central Florida on Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Orlando, then travel approximately one hour southwest to Winter Haven where it is scheduled to play Bucknell in a single game on Tuesday, March 11. CMU then heads west to San Antonio, Texas, where it will play a four-day, four-game series against University of Incarnate Word. It is the Chippewas’ third, and final, trip to warmer climes for non-Mid-American Conference games in the 2014 season. CMU finished 2-2 last weekend in the Snowbird Baseball Classic in Port Charlotte, Fla., and stands 4-8 on the season. Central Florida is 6-7 and has lost five consecutive games. Jordan Foley will start for CMU in Friday’s game, Pat Kaminska gets the nod on Saturday, and freshman left-hander Nick Deeg will start against the Knights on Sunday. Foley, a junior right-hander, is 1-2 with a 2.79 earned run average. He will oppose left-hander Eric Skoglund (1-0, 2.08 ERA). Spencer Davis, a junior right-hander, will start for UCF on Saturday. Davis is 2-0 with a 3.38 ERA. The Knights have yet to name a starter for Sunday’s game. Logan Regnier, Nick Regnier and Cody Leichman have led the Chippewas at the plate. Logan Regnier, a sophomore right fielder, is hitting a team-best .364 with four RBI and he has stolen six bases in seven attempts. He leads the Chippewas with 16 hits (in 44 at-bats). Leichman, who last week was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week, is hitting .306 (11-for-36) with one home run and a team-leading nine RBI. Nick Regnier is hitting at a .283 clip (13-for-46) with five RBI and has not been caught stealing in seven attempts. Derrick Salberg leads the Knights with a .386 average (17-for-44), while James Vasquez is hitting .319 (15-for-47). Tommy Williams leads UCF with three home runs. |
