Chippewas Face Michigan State in Home Non-Leaguer

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan University baseball team will play host to Michigan State in a non-league game on Wednesday at Theunissen Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 3:05 p.m.
The Chippewas are 22-14, MSU is 20-13 after taking two of three over the weekend from Big Ten foe Purdue. The Spartans’ game on Tuesday with Notre Dame was postponed because of weather.
CMU took two of three last weekend in a Mid-American Conference series with Bowling Green. CMU leads the MAC West Division with a 10-2 record. Ball State is one-half game back at 9-2.
The Chippewas go to Northern Illinois this weekend for a three-game MAC series beginning on Friday.
CMU defeated Michigan State, 10-1, last week in East Lansing. MSU committed eight errors in the game.
Adam Aldred struck out four in earning the win. Aldred, a sophomore left-hander, will get the start for the Chippewas on Wednesday. He is 3-3 with a 3.14 earned run average in 11 appearances, seven of them starts.
Aldred will oppose senior right-hander Chase Rihtarchik (0-2, 5.62). Rihtarchik has appeared in six games this season, five of them starts, and has allowed 15 earned runs on 37 hits, while walking six and striking out 11 in 24 innings.
Jimmy Pickens and Blaise Salter are Michigan State’s top hitters, both at .336. Salter is the team leader in home runs (4), RBI (30), doubles (13) and slugging percentage (.522). Pickens has three homers and 22 RBI.
Three Chippewas – Cody Leichman, Logan Regnier and Tyler Huntey – are hitting better than .300.
Leichman is at .357, Regnier at .345 and Huntey, the reigning MAC West player of the week, .321.
Leichman leads the Chippewas with four home runs and shared the team RBI lead (36) with Huntey. Leichman also leads CMU in slugging percentage (.548) and on-base percentage (.423).
Regnier has scored a team-high 37 runs, leads the Chippewas in hits (49) and is second on the team with 15 stolen bases. Nick Regnier leads the Chippewas with 22 swipes in 23 attempts. Regnier ranks fourth in the nation in stolen bases.
