COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Central Michigan women's soccer team concluded its trip to Colorado on Sunday, falling to Colorado College, 3-1.
The loss was CMU's third consecutive, leaving the Chippewas 1-5-1. Colorado College is 4-1-2.
The Chippewas will play host to Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne (1-6) on Friday, Sept. 19 for a non-league match. That match begins a three-game home stretch during which the Chippewas will play Northern Illinois (Sept. 26) in the Mid-American Conference opener, and Western Michigan (Sept. 28).
CMU coach Peter McGahey made some lineup adjustments for Sunday's match against the Tigers, including at goalkeeper, where Heather Laeufer drew her first start of the season in place of Maddy Bunnell.
"We were certainly glad to give Heather an opportunity to play," coach Peter McGahey said. "We made a couple of adjustments to the lineup and played some people in different positions, particularly in attacking positions and I think that really worked out well
Senior Laura Gosse scored CMU's goal off a Jennifer Gassman assist. It was Gosse's team-leading fourth goal of the season.
"Gosse scored a really good goal today and I think that will be something for us to build on moving forward," McGahey said.
Sarah Schweiss scored just 5 minutes, 55 seconds into the match to stake the Tigers to a 1-0 lead.
"We were really running up hill and chasing at that point," McGahey said.
Gosse tied it about seven minutes later, but the Tigers jumped back in front at the 19:21 mark on a goal by Kaeli Vandersluis.
The Tigers kept Laeufer on her toes as they outshot the Chippewas, 26-5, and posted eight corner kicks to CMU's four. Laeufer made 12 saves.
