Chippewa Wrestlers See Win Streak End

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The Central Michigan wrestling team saw its dual-meet win streak end at four Saturday, and was handed its first Mid-American Conference loss, as the Chippewas fell to third-ranked Missouri, 23-12.
The Chippewas recorded three victories on the afternoon. Freshman 125-pounder Brent Fleetwood won on a 4-2 decision, Zach Horan (141) took a 9-5 sudden victory win, and Adam Severn (197) won on a forfeit.
The highlight of the day came in Horan's win over sixth-ranked Lavion Mayes. Horan, who is ranked 14th, improved to 12-4 on the season.
"I think nationally, people don't realize how good Zach actually is," said CMU coach Tom Borelli, whose team is 5-5 overall, 3-1 MAC. "I know that Zach expected to win that match and was able to make it happen."
Missouri was without two of its best wrestlers Saturday. Second-ranked Alan Waters (125), and defending national champ J'den Cox (197) were both missing from the Tigers starting lineup. Missouri is 14-0 overall, 4-0 MAC
"We definitely have a lot of things to improve on," Borrelli said. "We need to continue improving and start to execute the things we've been working on better."
The Chippewas don't wrestle again until Jan. 25 when they return to Mount Pleasant to take on Northern Iowa in a MAC dual at 2 p.m.
"We still have a lot of work to do to get where we want to be," Borelli said. "We just faced some really great competition, but we need to keep improving going forward."
