Six Chippewa Wrestlers Ranked in MAC

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Six Central Michigan wrestlers are ranked among the top four in their respective weight classes in the Mid-American Conference preseason rankings.
The Chippewas were selected fifth in the nine-team league in a vote of league coaches. Three-time defending champion Missouri was picked first in the poll. The Tigers received 21 points. The Chippewas received 14.
Individually, CMU's Zach Horan (141 pounds) and Lucas Smith (157) are both ranked second. Both are seniors. Horan is one of seven wrestlers who won a MAC championship last season who returns this year.
CMU's Brent Fleetwood (125), Corey Keener (133), Jordan Wohlfert (164) and Mike Ottinger (174) are each ranked third. Fleetwood is a sophomore, Wohlfert and Keener are juniors, and Ottinger is a senior.
Four Chippewas - Horan, Colin Heffernan, Smith and Ottinger - are among the top 20 in their respective weight classes in the Amateur Wrestling News Preseason Individual rankings.
Ottinger is ranked 10th, Horan is 12th, Heffernan (149) is 13th, and Smith is 14th.
CMU's annual Marron & Gold Intrasquad Scrimmage is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, at McGuirk Arena. The Chippewas open the 2015-16 season at the Eastern Michigan Duals/Open on Saturday, Nov. 7.
Their first home date is Dec. 6 (2 p.m.), a non-league dual with Michigan State.
