MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Central Michigan's Chris Fowler has been nominated for the Allstate National Association of Basketball Coaches Good Works Team.
This marks the third consecutive year that Fowler, a senior guard on the men's basketball team, has been nominated for the prestigious award, which recognizes student-athletes who have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to enriching the lives of others and contributing to the greater good in their community.
"Chris is a natural leader, on and off the court," CMU coach Keno Davis said. "And he places a high priority on academics and his education.
"It is a combination of those traits that makes him an excellent fit to head up our School Matters efforts. The program is in capable hands with Chris at the forefront."
Fowler, who is in his fourth year as the Chippewas' captain, chairs the Central Michigan Basketball School Matters program, an initiative that stresses the importance of staying in school. Among the program's goals is to instill a love of knowledge, and encourages children to be good friends, classmates and citizens while trumpeting the benefits of physical activity along with a strong anti-bullying message.
Fowler, who hails from Southfield, is one of 154 men's basketball players nationwide nominated for the Good Works Teams. The teams will be announced in February.
