MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Five Central Michigan student-athletes were named to the College Sports Madness All-Mid-American Conference Preseason Baseball Team.
CMU's Sean Renzi, Logan Regnier and Daniel Jipping were named to the first team, while Zach McKinstry and Alex Borglin each earned a spot on the second team.
The Chippewas are the defending regular-season MAC champions.
Renzi was one of three pitchers named to the first team, Regnier one of three outfielders, while Jipping, an outfielder, was named as a utility player.
Borglin, who plays both infield and outfield, was also named to the team as a utility player, while McKinstry earned one of five spots on the second-team infield.
Last spring, Renzi and Jipping were named to the All-MAC First Team, while McKinstry earned second-team honors. McKinstry and Jipping were both named to the 2015 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American team, selected by Collegiate Baseball.
Renzi, a senior right-hander, emerged last season as one of the league's most consistent pitchers, finishing 5-2 with a 2.33 earned run average, which ranked fourth in the MAC. He struck out 60 and walked 31 in 65 2/3 innings.
Regnier, a senior, hit .312 last spring and drove in a team-high 45 runs. He shared the team lead with 90 total bases, was first among Chippewa regulars with a .452 slugging percentage, had seven triples among his 62 hits, and had 19 stolen bases in 24 attempts. He enters the 2016 season with 16 career triples, good for second in program history.
Jipping last spring hit .281 with six home runs and 40 RBI. He led the Chippewas in homers and was second in RBI.
Borglin, a junior, hit .308 in 2015 with three home runs and 24 RBI. He ranked second on the team in walks (37) and runs (55), and his .420 on-base percentage was second among Chippewa regulars.
Borglin and McKinstry both finished the year with 69 hits, good for second on the team.
McKinstry ranked second on the team last season with a .317 batting average and recorded a .940 fielding percentage while spending most of the season at shortstop.
The Chippewas open the season with a three-game series, Feb. 19-21, at Arkansas.
