MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Alexis Pelafas was named the Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week after etching her name in the Central Michigan women's soccer record book.
Pelafas scored both goals in CMU's 2-1 double-overtime victory over Ohio on Sunday, becoming the program's all-time leader in single-season goals with 15.
Pelafas scored her 14th goal of the season in the 63rd minute, heading in a long cross from the far wing and give the Chippewas a 1-0 lead. The record-breaking goal came in the 105th minute and gave the Chippewas the victory.
Pelafas made a brilliant run on net, received an entry pass from near midfield, muscled past a defender, faked out the goalkeeper and deposited the ball in the empty net.
Pelafas' goal total leads the MAC and is tied for No. 1 among all players in NCAA Division I. Pelafas has 32 points on the season, two shy of the Chippewas' single-season record.
It marks the second time this season that Pelafas, a sophomore from Wheaton, Ill., has been named the MAC Offensive Player of the Week.
The Chippewas are 13-1-2 overall, 5-1-2 in MAC play. They go to Akron on Thursday for a MAC game.
