
Late Dramatic Goal Gives CMU 1-1 Tie

BUFFALO, New York. — Eliza Van de Kerkhove scored with just 15 seconds remaining in regulation Sunday and the Central Michigan soccer team forged a 1-1 double-overtime tie with Buffalo in a Mid-American Conference game at the Bulls' UB Stadium.
CMU moves to 13-2-3 overall with a 5-2-3 mark in the league. Buffalo is 6-7-5, 3-4-3. The Chippewas fell, 3-2, to Akron in overtime on Thursday.
"I thought we had a positive response from Thursday and the team showed a lot of character playing in a real tough environment today," CMU coach Peter McGahey said. "I was very pleased with the poise and the leadership showed today. Eliza's goal is just another example of the grit and determination on this team."
Carissima Curtrona socred in the 56th minute to give Buffalo a 1-0 lead.
Van de Kerkhove's goal, her third of the season, came on and assist from Alexis Pelafas and sent the game to overtime.
CMU senior goalkeeper Kristen Knutson made three saves.
The Chippewas were outshot, 20-12, and the Bulls held a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks.
CMU returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 27, at Eastern Michigan (6-8-4, 4-4-2) for the final regular-season game of the season. The MAC Tournament is scheduled to get under way on Sunday, Oct. 30.
