MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Central Michigan goalkeeper Kristen Knutson was named the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week after posting two shutouts over the weekend.
Knutson anchored a Chippewa defense that held Miami (Ohio) and Ball State scoreless over a combined 215 minutes as CMU improved to 10-1-1 overall, 2-1-1 in the MAC, with a 1-0 double-overtime victory over the RedHawks and a 0-0 tie with the Cardinals.
Knutson, a senior from Eagan, Minn., made a combined six saves on the weekend, including a sprawling stop of a sure goal in the first half against Ball State.
Knutson lowered her season goals against average to 0.67 and upped her record to 10-1-1. She has recorded six shutouts this season.
It marks the third time this season that Knuston has earned weekly MAC honors.
The Chippewas play at Toledo on Thursday and play host to Bowling Green on Sunday. Both are MAC matches.
