
Five Chippewas in First MAC Wrestling Rankings

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Five Central Michigan wrestlers are ranked in the top four in their respective weight classes in the Mid-American Conference poll of league coaches.
CMU sophomore Justin Oliver, an All-American in 2016, is ranked second at 149 pounds behind Missouri's Lavion Mayes, a two-time All-American who last season finished third at the NCAA Championships. Oliver was seventh.
For other Chippewas -- Brent Fleetwood (125), Corey Keener (133), Colin Heffernan (157) and Jordan Ellingwood (184) -- are each ranked third. Ellingwood, a junior, is the defending MAC champion in his weight class. Keener is a senior, while Heffernan and Fleetwood are both juniors.
The Chippewas are ranked third in the league poll behind four-time defending champion Missouri. Northern Iowa is second. The Tigers earned 32 points in the poll, Northern Iowa had 16 ½, and the Chippewas had 11.
Eastern Michigan (9) is ranked fourth, followed by Northern Illinois, Buffalo, Old Dominion, Ohio and Kent State.
The Chippewas' annual intrasquad meet is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 30 (5 p.m.) at McGuirk Arena. CMU opens its season on Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Eastern Michigan Open.
