
Chippewas Hit The Home Mat Today

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The Central Michigan wrestling team will take to the mat for a dual meet for the first time this season on Sunday (1 p.m.) when the Chippewas play host to Virginia in a non-conference meet.
CMU finished 11-5 last season in duals and is ranked 17th by the National Wrestling Coaches Association.
The Chippewas competed last weekend at the Eastern Michigan Open. One CMU wrestler, Colin Heffernan (157 pounds) finished first at Eastern. Five other Chippewas - Brent Fleetwood (125), Mason Smith (141), Justin Oliver (149), C.J. Brucki (174) and Jordan Ellingwood (184) - each finished second in their respective weight classes.
Virginia, which is unranked, dropped its first duel of the season on Friday, 24-9, at Michigan.
The Cavaliers feature two wrestlers, George DiCamillo and Andrew Atkinson, who are ranked by InterMat. DiCamillo is 10th at 141, Atkinson is 20th at 157.
Three Chippewas, Oliver, Heffernan and Ellingwood, are ranked by InterMat. Oliver, a returning All-American, is eighth, Heffernan is 12th and Ellingwood is 14th.
The Chippewas are 2-1 all-time against the Cavaliers in duals.
CMU is scheduled to partake in the Michigan State Open on Sunday, Nov. 20, then is slated to head to the Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas Dec. 2-3.
