GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Central Michigan men's basketball team will wrap up its four-game road trip on Saturday when it visits Green Bay, a program on the rise under second-year coach Linc Darner.
Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Green Bay's Resch Center. The Phoenix (3-2) are the defending Horizon League Tournament champion, a result that put Green Bay in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 20 years last spring. It finished 23-13.
Green Bay is led in scoring by freshman guard Trevor Anderson, who in 2016 was named Wisconsin's Mr. Basketball by the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association.
Anderson, who averages 14.0 points per game, is one of five Green Bay players who average at least 10 points per game. The others are Charles Cooper, Khalil Small, Warren Jones and Turner Botz.
CMU is coming off a 1-2 finish at the Lone Star Showcase in Austin, Texas. The Chippewas (4-2) opened the event with an 11-point win over Pepperdine followed by losses to St. Bonaventure, 102-71; and to Lone Star champion Little Rock, 91-79.
Saturday's game is CMU's fourth in six days.
CMU junior guard Marcus Keene continues to make a major impact in his first season in a Chippewa uniform. He averages 29.3 points per game, which ranks second nationally. He has scored 30 or more points in four of CMU's six games.
The Chippewas are averaging 91.3 points per game, which ranks 16th nationally, and are making 10.5 3-pointer per start, which ranks 15th.
Keene leads the Chippewas with 16 triples, while senior guard Braylon Rayson had 14, and David DiLeo and Josh Kozinski had 12 each.
Green Bay has not played a game since Monday, when it defeated Missouri Kansas City, 95-77, one night after a 77-61 win over Bowling Green.
After Saturday's game at Green Bay, the Chippewas are scheduled to return to McGuirk Arena for three consecutive games, beginning with William & Mary (2-2) on Tuesday. The three-game homestand ends with a rematch with the Phoenix on Dec. 6.
