
Keene Earns MAC West Honors for Third Time

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. â€" Central Michigan junior guard Marcus Keene has been honored as MAC West Player of the Week for the third time this season, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
Keene, who leads the NCAA in scoring with a 31.9 points per game average, has earned the recognition in three of the last four weeks.
Keene continued his torrid scoring pace last week versus Montana State, posting a career-high 44 points in Central Michigan's 106-103 road win over the Bobcats. The point total was the highest for a single game in the MAC thus far this season and second most in Division I men's basketball.
Keene made 13 baskets, including five 3-pointers, and scored 13 points from the free throw line to lead the Chippewas to their ninth win of the season. He also dished out a game-high six assists and tied for the game-high in rebounds with nine.
In addition to acting as the nation's top scorer, Keene leads Division I in total points (383) and total field goals made (126) and ranks in the top 10 in total field goal attempts (No. 2, 248), 3-point field goals per game (No. 5, 3.92), free throws made (No. 6, 84), total 3-point field goals made (No. 8, 47) and free throw attempts (No. 9, 101).
Central Michigan hosts Chicago State (4-10) on Friday, Dec. 30 at 5:30 p.m. in McGuirk Arena in its final nonconference contest of the 2016-17 season. The Chippewas begin Mid-American Conference play after the New Year, opening on the road at preseason West Division favorite Eastern Michigan (7-5) on Tuesday, Jan. 3.
