
Keene Named Best in the West

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Central Michigan junior guard Marcus Keene was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week.
Keene further cemented his status as one of the nation's most prolific scorers, averaging 33.5 points, 4.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds in leading the Chippewas to victories over William & Mary and Arkansas-Pine Bluff. He made 56.4 percent of his field goal attempts and 52 percent of his 3-point tries in the two games at McGuirk Arena.
Keene tied his career-high with 36 points in leading the Chippeaws past William & Mary, 91-81. He had 31 points in CMU's 82-59 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff. His eight 3-pointers is the most by a MAC player in a single game this season, and it tied for fourth for the most in a single game in CMU history.
Pine Bluff entered the game having held opponents to an NCAA Division I-best 21.1 percent from 3-point range on the season. Keene finished 8-for-14 from beyond the arc in the game.
Keene, who has scored 30-plus points in seven of nine games this season, leads the NCAA in scoring at 30.4 points per game. His is exactly five points ahead of the No. 2 player and stands nearly nine points ahead of the MAC's second-leading scorer.
He has scored a total of 274 points, a remarkable 60 more than the NCAA's No. 2 top scorer. Keene also leads the MAC and ranks No. 5 nationally with 33 3-pointers.
He leads CMU with 40 assists and ranks No. 2 on the team with 36 defensive rebounds. Keene was named the American Sports Network National Player of the Week on Monday.
The Chippewas (7-2) play host to Green Bay (4-4) on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at McGuirk Arena.
