MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Central Michigan field hockey coach Molly Pelowski has announced the signing of four players who will join the program for the 2016 season, and the quartet has an international feel.
Two of the players hail from the United Kingdom, one from California, and the fourth is from Wisconsin.
Jasmine Banks of Edinburgh, Scotland, and Georgina Minta of Saxmundham, England, will cross the Atlantic Ocean to become Chippewas, joining newcomers Samantha Glapinski of Hartland, Wis., and Sarina Buchannan of Davis, Calif.
"They all share a very strong work ethic," said Pelowski, who is entering her second season in charge of the CMU program. "They really want to work hard, they want to go through the process of making our team great. They all have that intangible of being super competitive and they all have really great skill. I think collectively they're going to lift the level of our program."
Banks, Minta and Buchannan are proven goal scorers and should, once they blend into the CMU program, fill that role. Glapinski, Pelowski said, possesses a "solid skill set" and likely will play in the midfield and or the backfield.
"Serina, Jasmine and Georgi are all goal scorers and they all possess speed," Pelowski said. "Moving into the 2016 season that's one of our primary goals, improving our goal scoring ability both in practice and in competition.
"They're all very competitive and they want to win and certainly that makes for a great goal scorer, somebody who does whatever they need to do to put the ball in the back of the net. We need that mentality up front."
