Chippewas Win Soccer Exhibition

DETROIT - Sophomore Alexis Pelafas scored both goals as the Central Michigan soccer team downed Detroit Mercy, 2-0, Sunday in an exhibition match at Titan Field.
The Chippewas open the season with non-league matches at Duquesne on Friday and at Robert Morris on Sunday.
Savannah Beetcher assisted on Pelafas' first goal, which came in the fourth minute of the second half. Pelafas' second goal, about 18 minutes later, was unassisted.
The Chippewas held a 15-8 edge in shots including an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal. CMU had three corner kicks to Detroit Mercy's one.
Kristen Knutson, Morgan Britain and Zoie Reed played in goal for the Chippewas. Each played approximately 30 minutes. Reed made two saves, while Knutson had one.
