MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Central Michigan goalkeeper Kristen Knutson was named the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week after posting the shutout Sunday in a 1-0 non-conference victory over Oakland.
The win lifted CMU to 8-0-0 on the season, the best start in program history. Knutson, a senior from Eagan, Minn., has earned the win in all eight of those victories.
Knutson made two saves in the victory. She leads the MAC in goals against average (0.39), save percentage (.900) and shutouts (4).
CMU is one of three unbeaten untied teams in NCAA Division I. The Chippewas open MAC play on Friday at Northern Illinois. On Sunday, they play at Western Michigan.
