CMU Among Top 20; Five Chippewas Ranked Individually

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Central Michigan is ranked 17th and 20th and five Chippewas are ranked individually in the InterMat preseason rankings.
The Chippewas are 17th in the publication's dual-meet rankings and 20th in its tournament rankings. Penn State, which has won six of the last seven NCAA championships, is ranked first in both.
Just one Mid-American Conference team, Missouri, is ranked ahead of the Chippewas. The Tigers are fifth in both polls.
Junior Justin Oliver (149 pounds) is the highest-ranked Chippewa, sixth. CMU's Jordan Ellingwood is ninth at 184, while CJ Brucki (174) and Colin Heffernan (157) are both 12th. CMU's Mason Smith is 20th at 141.
Heffernan, Brucki and Ellingwood are all seniors. Smith is a sophomore.
In the Amateur Wrestling News preseason rankings, Oliver is seventh, Ellingwood is ninth, and Heffernan is 14th.
The Chippewas' annual Intrasquad Meet is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 27 (7 p.m.), at McGuirk Arena. They open the season on Sunday, Nov. 5, at the Michigan State Open.
