
Maroon Tops Gold In Wrestling Intrasquad

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The Maroon defeated the Gold, 19-17, on Friday in the Central Michigan wrestling team's annual intrasquad dual meet at McGuirk Arena.
Each side won five matches, with the difference coming in bonus points. Maroon earned bonus points in three of its wins, while the Gold won two matches with bonus points.
For the Maroon, senior Colin Heffernan (157 pounds) won on a 19-4 technical fall over freshman Blake Montrie; senior Jordan Ellingwood (184) scored a 15-5 major decision over freshman Jake Lowell; and sophomore Mason Smith (141) won on a 10-0 major over redshirt freshman Reiley Brown.
Also for Maroon, redshirt freshman Drew Hildebrandt (125) defeated freshman Brock Bergelin, 12-6; and sophomore Logan Parks downed redshirt freshman Sage Castillo, 10-4.
For the Gold, Justin Oliver (149) and Dresden Simon (133) won their matches by major decision.
Oliver, a junior, defeated freshman Nolan Saxton, 14-3; Simon downed Deven Perez, 12-3, in a battle of redshirt freshmen.
Also for Gold, senior CJ Brucki (174) defeated freshman Collin Lieber, 15-8; junior Jordan Atienza (197) held off redshirt freshman Landon Pelham, 8-7; and redshirt freshman Matt Stencel (285) defeated senior Newton Smerchek, 5-2.
The Chippewas open the season on Sunday, Nov. 5, at the Michigan State Open.
