FARGO, N.D. - North Dakota State's Daniel Stibral topped Matt Stencel, 3-1, in the final bout of the day on Sunday as the Bison handed Central Michigan a 19-16 loss in a nonconference dual at NDSU's Scheels Center.
The 19th-ranked Chippewas dropped a 23-16 dual on Friday at South Dakota State.
CMU (1-3), just as it did on Friday at South Dakota State, won four matches on Sunday, including at 141 pounds where sophomore Mason Smith continued his early season dominance with a pin in 4:14.
The Chippewas also got a 13-5 major decision victory from CJ Bruck (174) and wins by decision from Justin Oliver (149) and Jordan Ellingwood (184).
Ellingwood's 4-0 victory put the Chippewas in front, 16-12. At 197, North Dakota State's Cordell Eaton posted a 13-5 major decision win over redshirt freshman Landon Pelham to knot the meet at 16-all.
That set up the decisive 285-pound match between Stibral and Stencel. North Dakota State is 1-3.
The Chippewas wrestle at Northern Illinois on Saturday, Dec. 16. It is their Mid-American Conference opener.
