Prestigious Midlands Championships Next For CMU Wrestlers

SETTING THE SCENE
The Central Michigan wrestling team will partake in the 55th Ken Kraft Midlands Championships, hosted by Northwestern University, at Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Ill.
SCHEDULE
Friday and Saturday, Dec. 29-30. Wrestling begins at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, and at noon on Saturday.
BACK AT IT
The rugged tournament ends the 2017 portion of the season for the Chippewas, who are 4-3 in duals including 1-0 in the Mid-American Conference. Among the highlights of the early portion of CMU's schedule was a seventh-place finish in another prestigious tournament, the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.
THE FIELD
The Chippewas, who are ranked 21st by the National Wrestling Coaches Association, will join a field of 24 teams including seventh-ranked Iowa, No. 11 Arizona State, No. 13 Illinois, No. 15 South Dakota State, No. 16 Wisconsin, No. 17 Rutgers, No. 23 Purdue, No. 25 Edinboro.
RANKINGS
Five Central Michigan are ranked this week by Intermatwrestle.com. Junior Justin Oliver is third at 149 pounds; seniors Jordan Ellingwood (184) and CJ Brucki (174) are both ranked 14th; senior Colin Heffernan (157) is 15th; and sophomore Mason Smith (141) is 20th.

The Chippewas entertain Ohio on Sunday, Jan. 7, in the first of three consecutive home MAC duals.
