Chris Ostrowsky, who built a high-scoring offense as head coach of the Northern Michigan University football team, is the new offensive coordinator for Central Michigan, CMU coach John Bonamego said.
Ostrowsky was head coach at Northern Michigan for five seasons. The Wildcats' offense averaged more than 31.7 points a game and more than 386 yards of offense the past two seasons.
Bonamego said he was impressed with Ostrowsky's passion for coaching and wide-ranging background, which includes time as an offensive coordinator, a quarterbacks coach, a recruiting coordinator, passing game coordinator and an assistant head coach in stops at Northern Michigan, Northeastern (Mass.) and Division III Widener (Pa.)
"Chris has worked and developed quarterbacks, and he gets the most out of players," Bonamego said. "He's an outstanding fit with our coaching staff and our entire team."
Bonamego also announced Jayden Everett will be the running backs coach. Everett spent the past four seasons on the Indiana State staff as the running backs coach. He also served as Indiana State's recruiting coordinator in 2016.
Everett, Bonamego said, developed a corps of running backs at Indiana State that served as the centerpiece of the Sycamores' offense.
Ostrowsky said he had success with a multiple spread offense that "stretched the field horizontally and vertically." "I would say we had a lot of success offensively, and we got great production out of our quarterback (Shaye Brown)," Ostrowsky said.
"He was the most prolific passer in school history. And we had a good staff, good students and we stuck to the plan."
Ostrowsky and his wife, Jennifer, have three children, Jackson, Joseph and Hope.
Also, Bonamego adjusted some duties on his staff. They are:
- Sherrone Moore now is the assistant head coach, recruiting coordinator and tight ends coach.
- Archie Collins now is the defensive backs and defensive passing game coordinator.
- Derek Frazier now is the offensive line coach and run game coordinator.
- Former NFL kicker Shayne Graham joined the staff as a special teams quality control coach.
