MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Jocelyn Lemay had four goals for the Central Michigan lacrosse team as it fell, 15-9, on Friday in an Atlantic SUN battle with Coastal Carolina at the CMU Lacrosse-Soccer Stadium.
The Chippewas fell to 4-6, 1-2 ASUN. The Chantlieers improved to 5-4, 2-0. Central Michigan will play its second conference game of the weekend at home on Sunday (10:30 a.m.) against Furman. The Paladins (5-4, 1-1) won at Detroit Mercy on Friday.
"For us, it's one game at a time," CMU coach Sarah Tisdale said. "We think that Furman is a winnable game, no doubt about it. We thought today was a winnable game. I'm very happy with where we're at."
CMU and Coastal Carolina traded goals throughout the first half with Lemay scoring three of her goals less than 16 minutes into the game.
The Chanticleers scored twice in the final minute of the half to seize an 8-6 lead, taking a burst of momentum into the half.
"It's tough, that kind of takes the wind out of your sails," Tisdale said. "That's something a young team learns, how important that last 45 seconds to two minutes really are and that you can't let your guard down."
Coastal Carolina pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Chippewas, 7-3, in the final 30 minutes.
"What we saw from our girls is a willingness to battle and fight," Tisdale said. "They didn't care that (Coastal Carolina) is an older program or has more years of experience; they battled."
Hope Murray had three saves as she started in the cage for CMU. Dominque Hamman made two saves over for the final 20 minutes.
Freshman Emma Hamilton, who scored five against Kennesaw State a week prior, had three goals and two assists for the Chippewas. Shannon Doyle added two goals and two assists, and Riley Huda also had two assists.
Courtney Genovese had five goals to lead Coastal Carolina.
