WASHINGTON D.C. - Emma Hamilton scored four goals and Riley Huda finished with seven points (two goals, five assists) Sunday as the Central Michigan lacrosse team defeated Howard, 19-9, in an Atlantic Sun Conference game at Greene Stadium.
It was CMU's third consecutive victory. The Chippewas, who started the weekend with a 23-6 win at Delaware State on Friday, are 7-9, 4-5 ASUN and close the regular season at home on Saturday, April 29, (noon) against Detroit Mercy, 5-11, 3-6.
"No doubt (Detroit Mercy) will bring their best game and we're looking forward to a great competition against them," CMU coach Sara Tisdale said. "Looking forward, we've really been playing our best lacrosse at the right time. Last season we peaked around March and now we're seeing our team come out strong as the season winds down, which is more than I could ask for."
Hamilton scored the first two goals as CMU jumped to an 8-0 lead 13 minutes into the game. The Chippewas led 12-3 at halftime.
Jocelyne Lemay and Shannon Doyle added three goals apiece, and Tyra Prince had two for the Chippewas.
Our main strength "has been the ability to push the ball and make quality transition plays," Tisdale said. "We also looked to make sure we gave everybody quality time this weekend and we were able to do that."
Hope Murray got the win in the cage, saving four. Dominique Hamman took over in goal six minutes into the second half. She had one save.
Central Michigan outshot Howard, 42-17.
Amerra Sheckles had 13 saves in goal for Howard.
