Chippewa Soccer Picked To Finish Second In West

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan women’s soccer team was picked to finish second in the Mid-American Conference West Division in a poll of league coaches.
The Chippewas finished behind two-time defending division and overall league champion Ball State in the poll. The Cardinals received seven of 12 first-place votes, which CMU was picked to finish first on three ballots.
Western Michigan was picked to finish third, followed by Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois and Toledo.
Kent State, the defending MAC Tournament champion, was an overwhelming pick in the East Division as the Golden Flashes finished with 10 first-place votes. Buffalo, with two first-place votes, was second in the poll, followed by Miam (Ohio), Ohio, Akron and Bowling Green.
Ball State was picked as the league tournament winner in four ballots, while the Chippewas received three votes to win tourney. Kent State received two votes, while Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois and Buffalo received one vote apiece.
CMU, which finished 15-3-3 in 2016, opens the season this weekend at the Rock Chalk Invitational at Kansas. The Chippewas are scheduled to play Tulsa on Friday, Aug. 18, and then is slated to take on the host Jayhawks on Sunday, Aug. 20.
