MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Central Michigan student-athletes swept the Mid-American Conference women's soccer weekly awards.
Madison Costner was named the league Offensive Player of the Week and Mary Carlson earned the Defensive Player of the Week Award after the pair helped the Chippewas to a pair of victories over the weekend.
Costner notched her first assist of the season on Friday in the Chippewas' 4-0 victory over Robert Morris, and then on Sunday scored twice in a 3-2 overtime win at Oakland. Costner notched the game-winning goal when she beat the OU keeper to the far-right post from eight yards out.
Costner, a junior from Dublin, Ohio, leads the Chippewas in goals (3) and points (7).
Carlson, a junior from Grand Rapids, Mich., scored her first career goal in Friday's victory over Robert Morris when she poked in a corner kick to give the Chippewas a 1-0 lead. She was also instrumental in limiting the Colonials' offense to just one first-half shot as CMU posted its first shutout of the season. Carlson has been a steady constant on the CMU back line this season, logging every available minute (385) a central defender.
CMU is 2-1-1 and plays in the Marquette Invitational beginning on Friday.
