
Hall of Fame Class Set For Friday Induction

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. â€" Six of the very best in Chippewa athletics history are set to be inducted on Friday into the Central Michigan University Marcy Weston Hall of Fame.
The Class of 2017 comprises football player Dan Bazuin, volleyball player Wendy Feldman, baseball player Toby Kominek, soccer player Jacquie Lacek, wrestler Jason Mester, and field hockey player Erica Takach.The induction ceremony at McGuirk Arena is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. The ceremony is free and open to the public. The class is scheduled to be introduced during the CMU-Miami (Ohio) football game at Kelly/Shorts Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 23. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
• Bazuin was a standout defensive end who led the Chippewas to the Mid-American Conference title in 2006 and the program's first bowl victory, a 31-14 win over Middle Tennessee in the Motor City Bowl. Bazuin was named the MAC Defensive Player of the Year in 2005, becoming just the second Chippewa to earn that honor, was named Academic All-America as a senior, and was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the 2007 NFL draft.
• Feldman, a middle hitter, was a two-time Academic All-American, a three-time All-MAC selection, and a two-time team captain during her career, which stretched from 1995-98. She ranks second in program history with 1,374 career kills and her 512 kills in 1997 is a CMU record (pre-rally scoring). She led the MAC in kills per set twice in her career, and in 1997 was fifth in the nation in that category.
• Kominek was a First Team All-American and the MAC Player of the Year in 1995 after leading the Chippewas to their second consecutive MAC Tournament title and their second straight NCAA Regional berth. A third baseman, Kominek's remarkable '95 season included program single-season marks for home runs (25), RBI (65), hits (86), extra-base hits (45), and total bases (185), and his .877 slugging percentage and 71 runs in '95 both rank as the second-highest totals for a season in CMU history. Kominek was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the sixth round of 1995 Major League Baseball draft.
• Lacek is one of four CMU players to have ever notched a hat trick in a single game, and four times in her career she scored twice in a game. She still holds the single-game points record (7) and career assist mark (19). Four times in her career, which spanned from 2003-06, she earned All-MAC honors, and three times was named to the league's academic honor squad. Twice she was named to both the Academic All-District First Team and to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Scholar-Athlete Second Team.
• Mester was a two-time All-American and three-time MAC champion during his Chippewa career, which ran from 2000-04, and he helped lead CMU to first-place finishes in three consecutive MAC Championships. He is one of 19 members of the Chippewas' 100-Win Club, and he remains in the top 10 in program history in career victories and win percentage. He was named the MAC Freshman of the Year in 2001 and in '04 earned the league's wrestler of the year award. Three times Mester was named the Chippewas' Most Valuable Wrestler and he qualified for the NCAA Championships four times in his career, placing fifth in 2003 and fourth in 2004. He was twice named to the National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Academic Team.
• Takach posted 14 assists in helping lead the Chippewa field hockey team to the MAC Tournament title in 2005, when she was named to the all-conference team for the second consecutive year. Her 14 assists tie her for second in program history for a single season. Appearing in 80 career games (65 of them starts), she scored 21 goals and totaled 61 points. She ranks 10th in program history with 19 career assists, and was a four-time National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-Academic selection.
